Man from Hutch avoids injury after semi, train crash

PAWNEE COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 10 p.m. Saturday in Pawnee County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2011 Peterbilt semi driven by Aaron K. Mawhirter, 46, St. John, was eastbound on Kansas 156 approximately 3 miles east of Rozel.

The driver failed to yield to a westbound train and struck it.

EMS transported Mawhirter to the hospital in Larned.  The train engineer Casey Ediger, 27, Hutchinson was not injured. Mawhirter was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
