HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Rayvelle Leak rushed for a career-high 203 yards, and top-ranked Hutchinson Community College scored 31 second-half points to pull away from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M for a 52-24 victory Saturday afternoon at Gowans Stadium.

The Blue Dragons improved to 9-0 overall, remaining unbeaten despite being tested by the Golden Norsemen, who dropped their fourth consecutive game and fell to 5-4.

HutchCC will host No. 13 Dodge City on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. at Gowans Stadium.

Leak carried 19 times for 203 yards and a touchdown, averaging 10.7 yards per attempt. He became the first Blue Dragon to rush for 200 yards in a game since Waymond Jordan Jr. ran for 201 yards against Georgia Military College in the 2024 NJCAA national semifinals.

Hutchinson finished with 466 yards of total offense, including 306 on the ground, while averaging 7.2 yards per play.

The Blue Dragons struck early when Aiden Bruce returned an NEO punt 58 yards for a touchdown just 1:03 into the contest, giving Hutchinson a 7-0 advantage.

However, NEO responded with 10 unanswered points. Ognjen Petronijevic connected on a 25-yard field goal before quarterback Donnie Bennett found Todd James for a 19-yard touchdown pass, putting the Golden Norsemen ahead 10-7 with 6:10 remaining in the opening quarter.

Hutchinson regained the lead late in the first quarter on Jayden Hall's 7-yard touchdown run, capping a 10-play, 65-yard drive.

The Blue Dragons extended their advantage to 21-10 midway through the second quarter when Rashaud Hurt scored on a 2-yard run to finish an 80-yard possession.

NEO answered defensively when Jordan Warrior intercepted Hutchinson quarterback Randy Phillips and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown with 1:48 remaining before halftime, cutting the deficit to 21-17.

The Golden Norsemen had an opportunity to pull closer before the break, but Petronijevic missed a 34-yard field goal in the closing seconds, allowing Hutchinson to take a four-point lead into the locker room.

Hutchinson began to take control in the third quarter.

Phillips capped an 11-play, 72-yard drive with a 14-yard touchdown run at the 7:14 mark, extending the lead to 28-17.

The Blue Dragons then capitalized on an interception by Jace White, who returned the ball 13 yards to the NEO 16-yard line. Parker Grizzell converted a 27-yard field goal four plays later, giving Hutchinson a 31-17 advantage.

The field goal was Grizzell's 12th of the season, tying Michael Mesh (2012) and Alejandro de la Poza (2025) for the second-most field goals made in a single season in program history.

Hutchinson's offense exploded for 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Leak opened the period with a 50-yard run before Phillips connected with Nakai Poole for a 35-yard touchdown pass, pushing the lead to 38-17 with 14:25 remaining.

NEO briefly trimmed the deficit to 38-24 when Bennett found MiShaun Graham for a 14-yard touchdown following a Hutchinson fumble.

But the Blue Dragons answered immediately.

On the first play of the ensuing possession, Leak broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run, restoring Hutchinson's 21-point advantage just 16 seconds after NEO's score.

Bravin Powell added a 4-yard touchdown run with 7:20 remaining to complete the scoring.

Phillips finished 17 of 22 passing for 160 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown on five carries.

Jeremiah Looney led Hutchinson's receivers with seven catches for 73 yards, while Poole added three receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown.

For NEO, Bennett completed 24 of 47 passes for 301 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. James caught six passes for 137 yards and a touchdown, while Jayren Dennis added five receptions for 75 yards.

Nathaniel Stanley led the Golden Norsemen's rushing attack with 74 yards on 23 carries.

Defensively, Dylan Gill led Hutchinson with 10 tackles, while White and Jawon Springs each recorded seven tackles and an interception. Springs returned his interception 34 yards, setting up Hutchinson's final touchdown.

The Blue Dragons intercepted Bennett twice and held NEO to 91 rushing yards on 31 attempts.

Despite the final margin, NEO finished with 392 yards of total offense and 22 first downs compared with Hutchinson's 21.

Both teams were penalized heavily, with the Golden Norsemen committing 14 penalties for 148 yards and the Blue Dragons drawing 11 penalties for 115 yards.

Grizzell finished with 10 points, connecting on his lone made field goal and all seven extra-point attempts.

Hutchinson converted six of its 10 third-down opportunities and outscored NEO 31-7 in the second half, including 21-7 in the final quarter, to secure its ninth consecutive victory.
