VOLUNTEER CENTER OF RENO COUNTY
The Volunteer Center of Reno County, a United Way agency, is a central clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities in Reno County. Area non-profit and governmental organizations have submitted the following requests for help. HUTCHINSON ZOO is looking for volunteers to help with three different Conservation Connection educational events. Volunteers will assist with crafts and activities about different wild species and conservation projects, and assist the zoo education staff as needed. Volunteers are needed September 26, October 3 and/or November 7 from 10:30 a.m-2 p.m.
RENO COUNTY DISTRICT COURT - DIVISION I needs an additional volunteer bailiff to serve during civil and criminal jury trials. Bailiffs maintain order in the courtroom and handle all needs of the jurors during their service to the court. Volunteers must be Reno County residents, have good people skills, be authoritative and non-judgmental. Volunteers must also be willing to serve through the duration of the trial.
REGIONAL LONG-TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN are needed in Reno County. Volunteers will advocate to protect the rights, dignity, and safety of residents in long-term care facilities by making weekly visits to their assigned facility and talking with residents. Volunteers must complete 30 hours of training and successfully complete the screening process.
VISIONS OF HOPE is looking for people willing to serve a 2-year term on a Citizen's Review Board. Volunteers advocate for children who have been referred to the court system through Child in Need of Care cases. Volunteers must commit to reviewing 2 cases, once a month. Reviewers will hear cases and from those involved in the case and make recommendations to the court based on the best interest of the child(ren). Volunteers must be 22 years of age, be willing to complete 12 hours of training, and pass a KBI and DCF background check.
ROBERT J. DOLE VA MEDICAL CENTER serves veterans at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, KS. Volunteer drivers assist Veterans in attending much needed medical appointments by driving vans donated by Disabled American Veterans from Hutchinson to Wichita. Veterans often have no other way to make it medical appointments without the help of caring volunteers. Volunteer van drivers are needed from 7 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. once a week, or once or twice a month if not available for once a week. Volunteers must pass a driver’s physical, have a good driving record and a valid driver’s license and insurance.
HUTCHINSON MOMS-Volunteers are needed to provide childcare during meetings on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month from 8:45 a.m.-11 a.m. during the school year. Volunteers must have some experience with children and provide a safe, enjoyable environment for them. Volunteers will be background checked to provide care for children.
NJCAA DIVISION I VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT is being held 11/18-11/21 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. Volunteers are needed to be pass gate monitors, help in the hospitality room, scan tickets, help with the video board, be a PA announcer, work the scoreboards and monitor the official’s locker room. Shift times vary but are usually in 4 hour increments throughout each day. Volunteers will have a place to sit and can watch games before or after their volunteer shift.
