HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Salthawks dropped a pair of games to the Haysville-Campus Colts on Friday evening at Hobart-Detter Field. The Salthawks dropped the opener 12-1 before falling 11-4 in the second game.
Campus jumped out in front early in the first game with a 5-run first inning behind three doubles, two of which drove in two runs each. The Colts added four more in the third, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning to secure the 5-inning run-rule victory.
The Salthawks lone run was plated in the third inning on a Caiden Beavers single following a triple from Carter Morgan. Hutchinson finished the game with six hits, five of which were singles.
The second game saw Campus take a 3-1 lead through two innings, and then the Colts did the severe damage with an 8-run third inning. Campus chased Bentley Eckhoff out of the game after 2.1 innings pitched, allowing four hits and eight runs.
The Colts would not score again after the 8-run third, going scoreless the final four frames. While the Salthawks bullpen did their job in the latter parts of the game, the Hutch offense struggled. The Salthawks ended the game with just three hits, two of which were from Lakin Franz including a triple and a single.
The Salthawks are on the road on Tuesday when they will travel to Dean Evans Stadium in Salina to face the Salina South Cougars. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and can be heard on Hutch Post, as well as the NFHS Network.
