Hutchinson Community College sophomore cross country runner Ashara Frater didn't slow down from her late-season surge last year and won the season-opening Terry Masterson Twilight Classic last Thursday at Fun Valley.
Frater, a sophomore from Trelawny, Jamaica, was named the KJCCC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Tuesday.
Frater broke away from the lead pack early on Thursday night to win the 11th-annual Terry Masterson Twilight Classic by an impressive 28.98 seconds.
Frater became the third-straight Blue Dragon runner to win the season-opening Masterson Twilight and lead Hutchinson to a runner-up team finish. Frater earned her second career Top 10 Masterson Twilight finish – Frater placed sixth as a freshman last season – and her first collegiate career victory with a time of 18:35.54 over the 3-mile course.
That time ranked 21st in Masterson Twilight women's race history.
