Robert Dennis Bartel, 75, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 2:32 a.m., Wednesday, July 28th, 2021 peacefully at McPherson Hospital.
Bob was born in Goessel, Kansas on May 5, 1946, a son of Roland J. and Matilda Emma (Rempel) Bartel.
Bob attended Lehigh grade school and graduated from Lehigh High School, Lehigh, Kansas in 1964. He then attended and graduated from Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts.
He was a member of First Mennonite Church, McPherson.
Through the years Bob owned and operated Bartel Insurance Company, McPherson, Kansas for 22 years. Later he went back to school and got his teaching degree and taught at Hillsboro High School for a number of years until he retired in 2008. After retirement Robert and his sister-in-law owned and operated LB Estate Sales, Newton, Kansas.
Bob really enjoyed life, along with cars, trains, airplanes, museums, reading, art, music, talking with people, telling stories, anything his children and grandchildren were involved in, he loved to laugh, and spend time with his friends and family, especially his grandkids.
Robert D. Bartel was united in marriage to Sharon E. Goossen on August 24, 1968 in Hillsboro, Kansas. This young couple established their first home together in North Newton, Kansas. The couple was blessed with the birth of 4 children, 2 sons and 2 daughters, Shaun, Sheri, Shannon and Sheldon.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Sharon Bartel, of McPherson, Kansas; his children, Shaun Bartel and his wife Debra, of Newton, Kansas, Sheri Lepard and her husband Alan, of Sylvania, Ohio, Shannon Bartel, of Newton, Kansas and Sheldon Bartel and his wife Spring, of McPherson, Kansas; his brother John Bartel and his wife Lila, of Topeka, Kansas and his sister Mary Johnson and her husband Bill, of North Newton, Kansas.
He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, Sarah Bartel, Megan Bartel, Nick Lepard, Markus Lepard, Haylen Bartel, Jaxson Bartel and Xander Bartel.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at First Mennonite Church, McPherson, Kansas.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, McPherson, Kansas, with Pastor Rose Marie Zook Barber officiating.
Burial will be at a later date.
