
CHENEY, Kan. — The drought continues to cause some concerns around central Kansas. The National Weather Service says Hutchinson received just .52 of an inch of rain in August. Normal rainfall is 3.42 inches.
August temperatures were above normal, though not as hot as July. Hutchinson had nine days above 100 degrees. Most of those were in the first week of the month. It was 105 or hotter twice. Average for the month was 95.6 degrees with normal around 91.
Lake levels are still down at Cheney Reservoir. As of Thursday afternoon, the lake was at 1,419.8 above sea level. That's about two feet below normal.
