Johnny Dean Smith, 77, of Hutchinson, died June 12, 2021, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born January 14, 1944, in Hutchinson, to Oliver A. and O. Zay (Latham) Smith.
Johnny worked for many years on the road maintenance crew for Reno County. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, watching NASCAR, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Johnny loved Christmas! He would make treats and candies and dress up like Santa Claus to make the holiday special for his family and community. Johnny was a member of New Life Church of the Nazarene.
On April 21, 1975, he married Karen J. Vedder, in Miami, OK. She survives.
Also surviving are: children, Jeannie Steffen (Lee), Wendy Moore (Brian), Dwayne Smith (Angie), Candy Smith, Tammie Releford, Terry Hilton (Jodi), Nicole Hilton; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Frank Smith (Brenda), Karl Smith, Bob Smith (Connie), Rick Smith (Arlene), Georgia Waldren; and numerous extended family members.
Johnny was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Johnny Dean Smith Jr., and grandson, Jimmy Eugene Aston.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 2021, at 622 N. Star, Hutchinson.
Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from now until the service date, at Elliott Mortuary.
