
Erma Jean Mayfield, 98, died September 18, 2020, at Thorne Care Center. She was born July 22, 1922, in Croft, to Ira and Virginia (White) Mears. Erma graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1941 and Hutchinson Junior College in 1943.
In addition to being a homemaker, she worked in public relations, and in purchasing, sales, and consulting for Hutchinson Floral. Erma was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Wesley Singers, Friends of the Library, and PEO Chapter BY.
On April 2, 1942, she married Martin Mayfield, in Hutchinson. He died January 17, 1993.
Erma is survived by daughters, Ginger Mayfield (Bill Forst), Hutchinson, Janet Mayfield (Randy Morse), Kaslo, BC, Canada; sons, Bill Mayfield (Sarah), Hutchinson, Larry Mayfield, Hutchinson; daughter-in-law, Kathy Mayfield, Hutchinson; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; stepfamily, Janice Jabara (Larry), Greg Payton (Paula) and their families; and numerous extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Rick Mayfield; sisters, Monita Wisby, Bernice Shore, Betty Young; brother, Bernard Mears; nephew, Kenny Mears; and former husband, Jim Payton.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at a later date in Fairlawn Burial Park.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Wesley Towers for their loving care of Erma over the years.
