Youssef Brubaker Elbertai was born on February 6, 2001 in San Jose, California and passed away unexpectedly on May 5, 2020 in Olathe, Kansas.
Youssef is survived by his parents, Mary (Brubaker) and Majid; his brother and best friend, Amir; his sister, Miriam, of Olathe, KS; his sister, Arielle (Bridges) Carranza of Mesa, Arizona; his brother, Ryan Bridges of Chandler, Arizona; his paternal grandparents Drissia Hlouia and Hamadi Elbertai of Morocco; and his adopted life-long brother, best friend and partner in mischief, Caleb Maninger of Olathe, Kansas as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Youssef was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Louis and Mona (Vopat) Brubaker of Bavaria, Kansas.
Youssef is a 2019 graduate of Olathe Northwest High School in Olathe, Kansas. He was currently attending Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas majoring in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. He had a passion for HVAC and enjoyed tinkering around the house with improvement projects related to his field.
He also was a member of Overland Park Police Explorers Post 2986. Youssef was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing in his spare time. His favorite spot was the pond at the family farm in Ottawa. He loved to push the limits of a car’s mechanical ability, especially when mudding with the boys. He loved horticulture and was always generous with advice for gardening or lawn care from all he learned at his favorite high school job at The Grass Pad.
Youssef was never fast to judge others and never hesitated to defend anyone who was treated wrong. He was loved by many and fit in wherever he went. He had an uncanny ability to sum up situations with a sarcastic grin and a gleam in his eye. You never left him without a smile on your face. Youssef is deeply cherished by his parents, family and friends. The outpouring of love from people far and wide is a tribute to how much he impacted the lives of so many in such a short life.
A celebration of Youssef’s life is pending until loved ones can safely gather again.
