The Hutchinson Community College football team completes its 42-day road trip on Saturday in Western Kansas against the Dodge City Conquistadors.
The No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons (4-0) are the last Jayhawk Conference team to play a KJCCC game this season. Kickoff with the Conquistadors (1-4, 1-1 KJCCC) is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City.
The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 12:30 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Daren Dunn (color) calling the action. The game will be streamed live only on ConqTV.
Since the Blue Dragons last played at home on September 13, they have played three-straight road games and had their first bye week of the season. Over that time, the Dragons have accumulated 2,246 miles traveled. When you toss in the road trip to New Mexico Military on September 6, the Dragons will have traveled 3,362 miles before playing their second home game next Saturday against Independence.
The Blue Dragons extended their winning streak to eight games last Saturday with a 50-0 victory at Ellsworth.
Hutchinson's defense was impressive, holding Ellsworth to a negative-63 yards rushing and a negative-6 yards total offenses. The Blue Dragons had a season-high nine quarterback sacks and a season-high-tying 16 tackles for loss against the Panthers. The Dragons got interceptions from Da'Mun Allen and Amir Hill and a partially blocked punt by Aiden Bruce.
Offensively, playing limited snaps, quarterback Christian Johnson was 3 of 5 for 101 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed for 40 yards on two carries. Derrick Salley Jr. caught his eighth touchdown pass of the season.
The Dragons amassed 397 total yards against Ellsworth.
Dodge City was also in North-Central Iowa last week, but didn't have the same result as the Blue Dragons.
The Conquistadors lost to No. 11 Iowa Central 49-0. The Conquistadors were out-gained 486-217 and had two turnovers. The Blue Dragons extended their winning streak against Dodge City last season to eight games after a 42-0 victory over the Conquistadors at Gowans Stadium.
Hutchinson outgained Dodge City 399-35. The Blue Dragons scored six first-half touchdowns.
Receiver Tre Brown caught two touchdown passes and had six overall receptions for 114 yards. Samari Collier threw for 136 yards and two scores and Waymond Jordan Jr. rushed for 75 yards and one touchdown.
