The Reno County Commission will hold its regular meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Veterans Room of the Reno County Courthouse, 206 W. First Ave.
Commissioners are expected to set the canvass date for the Nov. 4, 2025, General City/School Election. State law (K.S.A. 25-3104) requires counties to canvass results no later than 13 days after an election. Staff recommends scheduling the canvass for 8 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the Courthouse Annex Conference Room. An alternative allowed under the statute—Tuesday, Nov. 11—will also be presented, but staff says Nov. 12 aligns with past practice and provides additional time for ballot processing.
The board will also consider authorizing the Sheriff’s Office to purchase two Digital Intel Forensic Recovery of Evidence Devices using a $25,000 grant awarded Sept. 11 by the Kansas Attorney General’s Office. The equipment package—two computers, four monitors and accessories—is intended to expand investigators’ ability to recover and analyze electronic evidence in criminal cases. Funds will be deposited into and expended from the Sheriff’s Grant Fund.
In other business, commissioners will be asked to approve a memorandum of understanding with Growth Inc. to support road improvements tied to new industrial development. The agreement would allow the Chamber of Commerce to use grant funds before year’s end for engineering, design and right-of-way work along McNew Road, improving access to Evergy’s new plant and the Kimbell Industrial Park at McNew Road and Mills Avenue. Staff recommends approval, noting the project would be fully grant-funded with no county dollars.
The agenda also includes the County Appraiser’s annual report, routine vouchers and a budget adjustment for a Juvenile Behavioral Health Grant, as well as monthly department and financial updates from County Administrator Randy Partington.
A study session will follow the regular meeting to discuss a Health Department RFQ update, proposed travel policy revisions, legislative issues and other miscellaneous items.
