Hutchinson's battle with Dodge City has plenty on the line.
Firstly, the Blue Dragons go in search of a seventh-straight Jayhawk Conference championship and 16th league title in program history. Hutchinson is the only unbeaten team in the KJCCC at 5-0. Butler has completed its season at 5-1 and Dodge City is third with a 3-1 league record.
Also, Blue Dragon head coach Drew Dallas makes his first attempt at reaching 70 career victories in Hutchinson football history. Dallas is 69-6 on the Blue Dragon sideline.
Last week, the Blue Dragons trailed for the first time this season, trailing NEO 10-7 in the first quarter. That deficit lasted all of 5 minutes, 14 seconds. After Hutchinson reclaimed the lead with 56 seconds left in the first quarter, the Blue Dragons went on to defeat the Golden Norse 52-24.
The Blue Dragons rushed for 306 yards, led by Ravelle Leak's 203 rushing yards led the way offensively. Aiden Bruce also had his third punt return for a touchdown, which tied a Blue Dragon school record.
Dodge City started the season 1-2, but is 5-1 in its last six games.
Last week, the Conquistadors rushed for a program-record 370 yards, getting 132 yards from Tim Carpenter and other 101 from Joshua Taylor in a 47-37 win over Highland.
The Conquistadors lead the Jayhawk Conference in rushing at 200.1 yards per game. Taylor is the conference's leading rusher at 87.7 yards per game.
The Blue Dragons play their third nationally ranked opponent of the season. The Dragons have defeated No. 12 Butler 24-0 on Sept. 22 and No. 1 Iowa Western 26-0 on Sept. 29 in ranked matchups this season. In the Drew Dallas era, the Blue Dragons are 31-5 against NJCAA ranked opponents.
