William ’Bill’ Thomas Harner, 89, passed away August 3, 2022, at his home. He was born November 1, 1932, in Hanover, PA, to Emma Harner.
Bill was a 1951 graduate of Red Lion High School, Red Lion, PA, and a 1959 graduate of Kansas State University, Manhattan. He served in the United States Navy from June 1951 to June 1955. Bill was the Advertising Director at the Hutchinson News, retiring with over 25 years of service. He was a member of the Hutchinson Rotary Club, Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce, and Highlands Country Club.
To say Bill enjoyed playing golf was an understatement. His obsession with golf was well known, since many of his advertising connections and business transactions were conducted on the golf course.
On July 1, 1960, Bill married Elizabeth Nell Prater, in Topeka. They shared over 62 years of marriage.
He is survived by: his wife, Elizabeth Harner of Hutchinson; children, Pamela (Harv) Monroe of Blue Springs, MO; Ron Harner of Hutchinson; and Darin (Paula) Harner of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Nathan (Krista) Treaster, Bryce Harner, Logan (Maddy) Harner, and Bailey Harner; great-grandchildren, Emma Treaster, Ryerson Treaster, Leo Harner, and Piper Harner; and twin brother, Bob (Muriel) Harner.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Barbara Hoskinson.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
