SEDGWICK COUNTY —A Kansas man died in an accident just before 3 p.m. Tuesday in Sedgwick County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2000 Buick Century driven by 41-year-old Travis Smith of Newton was northbound on Interstate 135 just north of 85th Street, when the Buick crossed into the median, traveled northbound in the southbound lanes and struck a 2011 Ford Flex driven by 16-year-old Emily Paulus of Hillsboro head-on.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Sedgwick County Forensic Center. EMS transported Paulus and a passenger, 43-year-old Laura Paulus of Hillsboro to Wesley Medical Center. All three were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
