Coming off a comeback overtime victory on Saturday, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team hopes to ride that momentum in the Blue Dragons' return to the Sports Arena after four games away from home.
The Blue Dragons (5-3, 1-1 KJCCC) will take on the Colby Trojans (6-2, 1-1 KJCCC) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 7:15 p.m. with Sean Boston (play-by-play) and Dan Naccarato (Analyst) calling the action. The game will be streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 7:15 p.m.
Hutchinson trailed Fort Hays Tech Northwest by six points in the second half and needed a D.J. Dudley game-tying 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. The Dragons hit three 3-pointers in the extra session, outscoring the Tigers 17-12 for an 94-89 victory at the Max Jones Fieldhouse.
Jaquez Thornton had a career-high four 3-pointers in 24-point effort. Bobby Cannon posted his first career double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds in the Blue Dragons' third overtime game of the 2024-25 season.
Colby is off to a strong start this season. The Trojans had a five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday at home by Coffeyville, 56-50. Colby was staggered by 10 Red Raven 3-pointers while the Trojans shot only 4 of 18 from distance. Eternity Eguagie led Colby with 15 points.
Colby is 4-2 against NJCAA Division I opponent this season with a road win at Northeastern Junior College, 78-73 on November 12 in Sterling, Colorado. The Trojans opened the KJCCC season with an 80-73 victory over Independence.
The Blue Dragons are 2-1 in overtime games this season. The Dragons defeated Southwestern Christian 96-91 on November 9 at the Sports Arena. They then dropped a 94-89 overtime decision at No. 1 Barton on November 20 and then claimed the overtime win at Fort Hays Tech.
The most overtime games in one season is five set by the 2013-14 Blue Dragons. The 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2022-23 teams played four overtime games. The 2002-03, 2010-11 and 2015-16 teams all played three overtime games.
