HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Dillons pharmacies are preparing for the approval of the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine for the general public that is expected this fall.

"We're in that process right now, for probably the last two or three weeks," said Robert Tomasu with Dillons. "Immunocompromised patients are able to get a booster right now. We've had some experience and some exposure to that. That's helping us gear up for the fall."

For those who have been vaccine hesitant but who are ready to get their first dose now that the Pfizer vaccine is fully approved, you can just walk in.

"I truly think that's going to increase the general population's confidence in the safety of the vaccine," Tomasu said.

Tomasu said they have plenty of supply of COVID vaccine right now. His only concern is the potential for tightening availability of those who can give vaccinations once flu shots get underway.

"You couple that with, even the population that's coming in to start their COVID vaccine regimen, we're going to have to watch really, really closely the workload on our staffing."

At this point, if a third shot is approved, it will likely be for eight months after the second shot, which means if you got your second in March, you would get your third in November.
