MCPHERSON, Kan. — Teamwork between McPherson EMS and Moundridge EMS helped safely deliver twins during an emergency call in February, according to a Facebook post from McPherson EMS.
McPherson EMS said the call originally came in for active labor in Moundridge EMS territory, but the family was driving to the hospital and stopped in McPherson EMS territory after pulling over.
Dispatch then updated responding crews that the mother was delivering twins, prompting McPherson EMS to request additional help from Moundridge EMS.
According to the post, both agencies arrived within 30 seconds of each other.
The first baby was delivered in the backseat of the family’s vehicle before reaching the hospital. The second twin was delivered shortly afterward at the hospital with EMS assistance.
McPherson EMS reported that both babies and the mother were doing well.
The agency said the call highlighted the importance of cooperation between neighboring emergency services, noting that while the responders represented different departments, their shared mission was to provide the best possible care for every patient.
Because of their work on the call, four EMS providers received Stork Pins recognizing their role in the deliveries: Captain/Paramedic Meyers and EMT Dauer of McPherson EMS, along with Paramedic Bradley and AEMT Hammar of Moundridge EMS.
McPherson EMS said consent was obtained from the family before sharing the story.
