2 hospitalized after Harvey Co. 3-vehicle crash

HARVEY COUNTY —Two people were injured in an accident just before 7 p.m. Friday in Harvey County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2012 Chevy Equinox driven by Hope L. Smith-Becker, 81, Halstead, was northbound on Halstead Road one mile north of Halstead.

The driver failed to yield right of way at the stop sign at U.S. 50.

An eastbound 2020 Freightliner semi driven by Hector S. Salinas, 61, Tucson, Arizona struck the Chevy on the driver's side.

After impact, the Chevy struck 2017 Ford F150 driven by Jared L. Barbee, 37, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, who was stopped waiting to turn left.

EMS transported Smith-Becker to Wesley Medical Center and Barbee to Newton Medical Center. Salinas was not injured. Smith-Becker was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
