Original story
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Animal Shelter and Hutchinson Zoo are partnering to find a permanent home for a baby African tortoise.
The tortoise, currently being cared for at the zoo, is small now but could live 50 to 150 years and grow to a much larger size. Officials say it will require ample space, a specialized habitat and a carefully managed diet from its caretaker.
The animal is available for adoption through the Hutchinson Animal Shelter. Interested individuals are encouraged to research the species’ long-term needs and be prepared for what officials describe as a “lifelong commitment.”
Serious adopters may call the shelter at 620-694-1924 for more information.
