KANSAS CITY (AP) — A Kansas City man who caused a fatal collision while fleeing from police has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder, the Jackson County Prosecutor's office said.
Miguel Ayala, 33, also pleaded guilty Monday to resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated.
Prosecutors said Ayala fled from police on Feb. 19 after a woman reported that he tried to hit her with his car. During the chase, he went through an intersection and hit another vehicle.
The driver of that car, 38-year-old Rebecca White of Raytown, and her 3-year-old daughter, were seriously injured. White later died from her injuries.
Court documents indicate Ayala had a blood-alcohol content of .347 after the crash and said he was too drunk to remember what happened.
