WICHITA, Kan. – No. 20 Wichita State was shutout for just the third time this season and held to only three hits in Sunday series finale vs. Houston, falling 4-0.
Wichita State (36-8, 10-2) saw its 12-game win streak come to an end, one shy of tying a school record.
Alison Cooper was lights out for 6.0 innings, but didn't get any run support to back her up. Cooper struck out a career-high eight, before Houston touched her up in the seventh inning for a pair of insurance runs.
Wichita State managed just three hits, a double from Addison Barnard and singles from Lauren Lucas and Krystin Nelson.
For the first time in the series Houston scored the opening run on an opposite field solo home run in the top of the third.
A sac fly in the top of the sixth made it 2-0 and then another sac fly in the seventh and an RBI single proved to be more than enough for the Cougars.
Wichita State only threatened twice with multiple baserunners on, those coming in the first and third innings.
