KANSAS CITY—Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, officials with the Chiefs and the Kansas City Sports Commission issued a joint statement Monday confirming there would be no parade if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl. Last year's parade drew hundreds of thousands of red-clad fans.

“We hope that this journey ends with a victory in Tampa and if that’s the case, we will continue to work with the experts to celebrate safely when the time is appropriate,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan said in a statement.

A county near Kansas City is offering to host a parade even though the team says it doesn’t plan to have one. Cass County commissioners said in a statement that they are “proud members of Chiefs Kingdom” and offered to host the celebration. Not everyone thought this was a good idea.

Email messages left with the Cass County commission on Tuesday were not immediately returned.
