Lonnie Marvin Sidebottom, 84, died June 11, 2022, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler. He was born June 6, 1938, in Lewis, to Lawrence and Grace (Harris) Sidebottom.
Lonnie attended Hutchinson High School. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserves from 1956-1963. Lonnie worked at Carey Salt for 43 years and was the “powder man” / “explosives expert” for the last 15 years before retiring. After retirement he gave tours in the Strataca Museum. Lonnie was a hard worker and enjoyed home improvement projects and was in the Antique Club. He was a Christ-follower who lived out his faith and values in the community with his church, workplace and family.
On June 15, 1958, Lonnie married Nelda N. Owens. She died April 23, 2002. On January 11, 2003, he married Amelia “Midge” Sinclair. She survives.

Hoover of Hutchinson; Gabriela Sidebottom of Nuevo, CA; Noah Sidebottom of Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Lillia, Allana, and Wesley Jones of Hutchinson; brother, Arthur Sidebottom of Wichita; sister, Deloris Carr and husband Jerry of Victoria, TX; sister-in-law, Earlene Mitchell of Garden City; brother-in-law, Steve Owens and wife Jana of Mart, TX; bonus daughters, Linda Sinclair Hackney, Becky Sinclair, Stephanie Augustine (Brian); bonus grandchildren, David Blick, Joshua Augustine (Elle), Theo Johnson, Lindsey Blick, Brittni Gianakon (Matt), Breann Titus (Jon), Shelby Augustine; bonus great-grandchildren, Hailey Gianakon, Brooklyn Blick, Tia Fitzpatrick, Addison Neal, Jurzee Shearhod, Paxton Cupp, Malachi Cupp, and Taytum Blick-Shearhod; and many extended family members.
Lonnie was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Nelda; her parents, Percy and Wilda Owens; brothers, Leroy and Jerry; brother-in-law, Steve Ruby, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Bertha Owens; sister-in-law, Anetta Owens; daughter-in-law, Jonnie Sidebottom; nephew, Chris Owens; and bonus great-granddaughters, Breanna and Aurorah Blick.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park with military honors conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary.
