HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Penny Taapken with the Reno County Food Bank let Hutch Post know about an event they are doing where kids can see princesses and super heroes Saturday.
"It's a fundraiser for the food bank," Taapken said. "Ages 5 to 18, it costs $5 or five cans of food to get in. We have two princesses and Batman coming. I think we'll have a couple of other characters. We have raffles, a little bit of face painting. We're doing a game. We have a bounce house and they can take pictures with the princesses."
The princesses will be at the Salvation Army at 700 North Walnut in the gym from 1 to 2 p.m., the event will be going on until 3 p.m. Taapken said the need continues to be great for the food bank.
"It's increasing," Taapken said. "We're getting more and more new families coming through."
If you have cash, you can give it. They also will take food store gift cards, or there is specific food that would help, above and beyond the usual canned goods, though those are welcome, too.
"Cereal, soup, pancake mix and syrup, peanut butter, your pastas," Taapken said. "Basically, just your essentials to make a meal."
