JACKSON COUNTY —A Kansas woman died in an accident late Thursday following a vehicle pursuit in rural Jackson County.
Just before 11p.m. Thursday, a police officer was in a vehicle pursuit with a Dodge Avenger, according to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse.
The driver of the Dodge passenger car failed to stop for the officer and continued northbound out of the city on U.S. Highway 75. The vehicle continue east on 254th Road and then north on W. Road.
Jackson County deputies assisted with the pursuit. The suspect vehicle continued westbound on 286th Road, failed to stop at at a stop sign at U.S. Highway 75 and struck a southbound Jeep Renegade.
Both vehicles left the roadway, with the suspect vehicle landing on its side. EMS transported both occupants of the Jeep and two occupants of the Dodge to a Topeka hospital.
A third occupant of the Dodge identified as Shai Boyd, 26, Topeka, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Morse.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is in charge investigating the accident and incident. Early Friday a portion of Highway 75 remained closed with traffic being detoured north of Holton.
