HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson City Councilman Greg Fast has resigned from the council, citing personal reasons, creating a vacancy in the city’s Southwest District.
The City of Hutchinson announced Tuesday that Fast’s resignation was effective Oct. 5.
“I have appreciated the opportunity to serve the citizens of Hutchinson for the last five years,” Fast said in his resignation. “Effective immediately, I will be resigning as council member for the southwest district for personal reasons.”
Fast represented the Southwest District and had served on the City Council for nearly five years. The city thanked Fast for his service to the Hutchinson community and residents of the district.
Mayor Scott Meggers formally acknowledged Fast’s resignation at the beginning of Tuesday evening’s City Council meeting.
Council members also discussed how to proceed with filling the now-vacant Southwest District seat. The council agreed to take up the appointment process during its next meeting on Oct. 20.
At that meeting, council members are expected to discuss how interested residents can apply for the position, qualifications for appointment and the anticipated timeline for selecting Fast’s replacement.
“We want this to be an open, fair, and transparent process,” Meggers said.
