HUTCHINSON, Kan.. — The Hutchinson Monarchs rallied with two outs in the eighth inning to erase a deficit and defeat the Haysville Aviators 5-3 on Monday.

Tied 3-3 entering the eighth, the Monarchs broke through when Jackson Harding delivered an RBI double. Hutchinson added two more runs later in the inning on a Haysville error to take a 5-3 lead.

The Monarchs opened the scoring in the sixth on a wild pitch before Haysville answered with a three-run bottom half. Tyler Hand and Rob Evans each drove in a run with doubles as the Aviators grabbed a 3-1 advantage.

Hutchinson starter Cooper Harris turned in a strong outing, allowing three hits and three runs — two earned — over six innings while striking out eight and walking three.

Haysville’s Dylan Dick kept the Monarchs in check for much of the night, giving up two runs on six hits over seven innings with three strikeouts and one walk.

Brice Wallar and Julian Lyons combined for three scoreless innings of relief to preserve the victory. Wallar also led the Monarchs offensively, going 2 for 4, while Harding and James Dagenhart each drove in a run.

Hand, Evans and Brett Hennigan each collected a hit for the Aviators, who also drew six walks.

The Monarchs return home Tuesday to host the Great Bend Bat Cats.
