HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Art Center is preparing for one of its signature annual events, as the Hutchinson Art Fair returns this weekend to the Kansas State Fairgrounds.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the Sunflower South Building, offering free admission and free parking for attendees. Organizers say the fair will feature more than 50 artist booths showcasing a wide range of work, along with live music, food vendors and activities for families.
Executive Director Emily Kohls said the fair continues to grow, drawing both local and regional artists.
“We have artists coming not just from Kansas, but also from Oklahoma and Colorado,” Kohls said. “It’s exciting to see that regional reach and bring new perspectives into the event.”
Visitors can expect a diverse mix of art forms, including painting, ceramics, metalwork, jewelry, fiber arts and yard art. Organizers say the variety is part of what keeps people coming back each year.
In addition to browsing artwork, attendees can enjoy live performances from local musicians, including bluegrass, jazz and piano acts. A food vendor will also be on site during lunchtime.
The fair also emphasizes family-friendly activities. Free goodie bags will be available for children, and the Public Art and Design Council will host a community coloring project along with interactive displays.
Another highlight is the annual art raffle, giving visitors a chance to win original works from Kansas artists.
Organizers say the timing of the event—held annually the Saturday before Mother’s Day—makes it an ideal opportunity to find unique gifts.
“It’s a chance to buy something personal that you won’t find anywhere else,” said Barbara Withrow, a longtime supporter of the event.
The Hutchinson Art Fair has become a staple community event, supported by local businesses and drawing steady crowds each year. Organizers encourage attendees to arrive early, noting some artists may sell out before the event concludes.
For more information about the fair or other programs, the Hutchinson Art Center is located at 405 North Washington Street and offers exhibits, classes and events throughout the year.
