WICHITA, Kan. - Santa Barbara, CA Foresters’ pitchers Sean Johnson, Peyton Pallette and Elijah Trest pitched a no-hitter to help the Foresters to an 8-0 win over the Liberal, KS Bee Jays in the 2020 NBC World Series powered by Evergy on Thursday night at Eck Stadium.
Johnson (Ole Miss), Pallette and Trest (Arkansas) threw the first no-hitter in the NBC World Series since August 14, 2001, when Seth Hill of Prairie Gravel, IL achieved the milestone against Clarinda, IA.
Getting the start and pitching the first seven innings, Johnson came up with 10 strikeouts and retired all 21 batters that he faced. Facing only three batters in the eighth inning, Pallette dominated with three strikeouts to keep the no-hitter alive heading into the ninth inning. Trest came up with a strikeout and retired the other two batters he faced following a walk to give the Foresters the collective no-hitter.
Branden Boissiere led the Foresters on offense with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate with two runs and two RBIs. Eight different Santa Barbara hitters recorded at least one hit on Thursday.
The Foresters advance in the winner’s bracket, facing the Cheney, KS Diamond Dawgs on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Eck Stadium in Wichita. Liberal will have a rematch with the Houston, TX Express on Friday at 6 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
