HUTCHINSON, Kan. —  The Vitality Team of Reno County is hosting a special memorial ride honoring former Hutchinson resident and cycling enthusiast, Mark Call, this Saturday, June 25.

Call was an avid cyclist in the community and a charter member of the Hutchinson Headwinds Bicycle Club. Following his death in October 2020, his family wanted to honor his appreciation for bicycling and trails, and did so through a memorial that paid for the construction of a shelter area and trailhead at Rice Park.

The City of Hutchinson’s parks and facilities department oversaw the new trailhead project, which the Call Family is naming “Mark’s Respite.” The trailhead is located just south of the Rice Park Shelter Building, along the Jim P. Martinez Sunflower Trail.

Saturday’s Mark Call Memorial Ride will include a ribbon cutting of the new trailhead, along with refreshments, plus two guided rides to choose from in honor of Call. This event is free and open to the public; residents are asked to meet at the Rice Park Community Building, located at 44 Swarens Street.

The Saturday, June 25 Mark Call Memorial Ride schedule includes:

8 a.m.: 12-Mile Ride

8:30 a.m.: 6-Mile Ride

9 a.m.: Ribbon Cutting with Refreshments and Remarks
