HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce has named Service Plus Electrical Solutions the recipient of its June Small Business Award, recognizing the company for its dedication to quality service, community involvement, and purpose-driven growth.
Founded by Steven Brown, Service Plus was built on a straightforward but powerful belief: the experience between electrician and homeowner should be rooted in trust, communication, and respect. After years working in the field for other contractors, Brown saw an opportunity to raise the bar.
From the beginning, Service Plus set itself apart with transparent pricing, flexible payment plans, and an obsessive attention to detail—going so far as to use drop cloths and Swiffers to ensure workspaces are left cleaner than when the team arrived.
“We’re not just fixing wires,” Brown said. “We’re rebuilding confidence in what great service looks like.”
Now in its seventh year, Service Plus has grown into a six-person team, including four full-time W-2 employees and co-owners, all sharing a vision to grow with intention. Their specialty—rewiring entire homes—demonstrates not only technical skill but a commitment to preventing serious hazards before they happen.
In addition to their core services, Service Plus offers Safe Home Surveys, a donation-based walkthrough of a home’s electrical safety. Donations from these surveys go entirely to the company’s charitable program, Spread the Light, which funds a full electrical rewire for a Reno County family in need—completely free of charge.
The business also invests in its team with benefits like paid leave, career advancement support, referral bonuses, and apprenticeship opportunities through Hutchinson Community College.
Despite the common challenges facing small businesses—from hiring to economic fluctuations—Service Plus has held firm to its founding values.
“At the end of the day, it’s about taking care of one client, one home, at a time,” Brown said. “With care and excellence—that’s what we’re here to do.”
The Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber’s Small Business Award is given monthly to recognize outstanding local businesses that contribute to the area’s economic vitality and community spirit.
