
RICE COUNTY, Kan. — A series of road closures and high water alerts have been issued across Rice County as recent rainfall has led to widespread flooding on rural roads and intersections.
According to the Rice County Emergency Communications Center, multiple roads are currently impassable, and the situation is expected to worsen in the coming days. Officials have already performed several water rescues and are urging drivers to avoid flooded areas.
Closed roads include:
- 13th Road from Avenue O to Avenue P
- 15th Road from Avenue N to Avenue Q
- Avenue P from 14th Road to K-14
- Avenue O from 14th to 17th Road
- West Noble Street to Sunset Drive
- Century Road from Main Street to Taylor Street
- Intersection of 2nd and North Saint John
- 26th Road and Avenue I
- 12th Road south of Avenue N and north of Avenue O
- 20th Road between Avenue P and Q
- Avenue P between 20th and 21st Road
High water signs have also been posted at:
- Avenue N from 14th to 15th Road
- East side of the north entrance to the salt plant
Emergency officials are emphasizing safety and reminding residents: “Turn around, don’t drown.” Driving into flooded roads remains one of the most dangerous actions during severe weather events, as even shallow water can be life-threatening.
The county will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed. Motorists are advised to check for the latest information before traveling and to avoid all barricaded or flooded routes.
