
GOESSEL, Kan. — Halstead’s boys piled up event wins and depth across the track and field Tuesday to win the Central Kansas Track League meet hosted by McPherson-Elyria Christian School at Goessel High School, while the Halstead girls placed second behind host Goessel.
Halstead won the boys team title with 165 points, well ahead of Goessel’s 107. Elyria Christian was third with 55, Lyons fourth with 21 and Peabody-Burns fifth with one point. In the girls standings, Goessel finished first with 148 points, followed by Halstead with 128, Elyria Christian with 40, Peabody-Burns with 18 and Lyons with 12.
Halstead’s boys were led by a strong sprint and field-event performance. Dacen Dedman won the 100-meter dash in 11.58 seconds and added a victory in the triple jump at 37 feet, 10 inches. Hudson Hawkins took first in the long jump at 20-2 1/4 and later won the 200 in 24.39.
The Dragons also swept the top three spots in the high jump, with Evan Wiedeman clearing 6-0 for first, Noah Brantley taking second at 5-10 and Jay McGlothlin finishing third at 5-4. Eli Wilcox won the pole vault at 10-0.
Halstead added wins in all three boys relays it entered, taking the 4x100 in 44.98, the 4x400 in 3:49.16 and the 4x800 in 10:14.16. Jacob Bennett won the javelin at 116-8 and placed second in the 300 hurdles in 47.25, while Noah Brantley won the discus at 124-7. Cariel Perez was runner-up in the shot put at 39-4 1/2 and third in the discus at 105-6.
Halstead’s girls also had a productive day. Jordy Schroeder won the high jump at 5-2, Annie Williams claimed the long jump at 16-8 and Mackenzie Ervin won the pole vault at 8-0. The Dragons also swept both sprint relays, winning the 4x100 in 51.81 and the 4x400 in 4:28.64.
Khloey Schauf led Halstead in the throws, winning both the discus at 97-3 and the shot put at 30-4 3/4. Mariel Garza added a javelin title at 100-11, while Caroline Denno finished second in the shot put and Maylin Bergman was runner-up in the 200.
Elyria Christian got several strong individual performances on both sides. In the girls division, Haven Bower won the 400 in 1:10.42 and Joy Beck claimed the 800 in 2:44.51 while finishing second in the 1,600 at 6:05.60. Isabelle Stucky placed second in the discus and sixth in the shot put, and Kynli Schneider was third in the discus and fourth in the javelin.
The Eagles’ boys were led by Mason Gardner, who won the 3,200 in 11:46.89 and took second in the 1,600 in 5:21.04. Matthew Robinson added a third-place finish in both distance races. Blake Saffel won the 400 in 58.14, Connor Stark captured the 300 hurdles in 47.18 and was second in the 110 hurdles, and Elyria Christian finished second in the 4x400 relay in 4:03.04.
Lyons was paced by several top-four finishes. On the girls side, Neriah Nolan took third in the shot put and sixth in the discus, while Ariah Silva finished third in the triple jump. Camila Landeros placed sixth in the 800.
