FEMA is looking for dedicated young people in grades 8 through 11 to join the Youth Preparedness Council (YPC).
Reno County Preparedness Coordinator Julie Kallas said FEMA created the Youth Preparedness Council (YPC) in 2012, and those who participate are able to work with leaders in public health, emergency management, and other public health practices, with some youth even working with the White House. This gives them an opportunity to learn about issues in our current climate and help create solutions to these problems, as they're full of great ideas.
As a YPC member, you’ll:
• Work with FEMA experts to improve disaster readiness
• Collaborate with like-minded peers nationwide
• Lead projects that strengthen your community
• Gain leadership skills and make your voice heard
This is your chance to step up, lead, and make a difference where it matters most. Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity.
Participants are expected to represent the youth perspective on emergency preparedness and share information with their communities. Each YPC year begins in July. Members are expected to attend the YPC Kickoff, which will take place virtually in July of 2025. Members are expected to serve on the council for a full year.
YPC members represent all ten FEMA regions and have a range of backgrounds and interests. They work on projects relating to: financial preparedness, citizen responder programs, and youth preparedness education.
The deadline to apply is approaching. Applications taken until March 3.
