Wichita, KS- The Wind Surge split a doubleheader with the Arkansas Travelers on Thursday night courteous of seven extra-base hits and two home runs in game one.
Wichita defeated the Travelers in game one behind an efficient outing on the mound from starter Casey Legumina as he pitched five innings and allowed three runs on six hits to earn his first win of the season.
The Surge struck first as Matt Wallner hit an RBI-triple to put the Surge up 1-0. Wallner finished the night two for six with an RBI.
The Surge tallied seven extra-base hits in game one as Andrew Bechtold hit a go-ahead two run homer to give Wichita a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning. The Surge went on to grab three insurance runs featuring a DaShawn Keirsey Jr. solo home run that would go on to give the Surge a 7-3 victory
The Surge fell short to the Travelers in game two 3-1 behind a dominant start on the mound from Arkansas’s Stephen Kolek. Kolek pitched five innings and allowed just one run on one hit and tallied ten strikeouts. Ten punchouts by a pitcher is the first time this year that has happened to Wichita.
Wichita had zero hits entering the sixth inning as Edouard Julien put the Surge in the hit column with a double. The Surge lone run scored on a bases loaded walk.
Wichita remains in first place in the Texas League by 1 ½ games.
Friday's game will have a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
