HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Board of County Commissioners in Reno County will consider a purchase of a new control system for the HVAC at the Courthouse, LEC and Health Department as part of their agenda on Wednesday.

According to agenda documents, the HVAC controls system operates equipment in the Courthouse, LEC, and Health Department and was purchased in 2008 as part of a major energy conservation project. That system is now obsolete and since a main controller has failed, the county will need to upgrade the system.

Adding these buildings to the Siemens system running at RCCF and the Annex was an option, but the cost was much higher as that system is not compatible with the existing one, so the old system would need to be completely replaced.

The Schneider Electric platform is compatible so many components and system infrastructure will be reused, which helps with the cost.

The recommendation is to approve the bid from Sandifer Engineering for upgrades to the HVAC controls in the amount of $55,012.58.

The cost will be split with $12,546.82 coming from the Health Dept. capital outlay fund and the remaining $42,466.50 from the county CIP fund. The CIP fund portion will be transferred from a project that will be moved to a future year (Youth Services Roof), as the priorities of needs have shifted with the failure of the HVAC control system.

The Board of County Commissioners meets Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Veterans Room at the Reno County courthouse.
