HUTCHINSON, Kan. — According to Major Paul James with the Hutchinson Salvation Army, they currently have $11,528.42 to go to raise $80,000 through the Red Kettle fundraising goal.  There are still opportunities to volunteer at RegisterToRing.com, but the bell ringing income has been surprisingly less than normal for this time in the season.  The last day of ringing is Christmas Eve.

The Salvation Army is also behind on the overall fundraising pace by $20,000.  There’s still time to give through year end gifts, but the Salvation Army fell way short in their budget last year after a slow Christmas season.  The group also spent more resources this year on the cost of Christmas food boxes, and Thanksgiving Gift Cards.  "We’re so grateful to share hope with families in need during a difficult time in the year with more children receiving toys this year," said Major Paul James. "We will struggle to pay bills without more support."

Many have commented how they purchased toys from the Angel Tree and weren’t able to donate financially.  This will have an effect on the year round services that help families in the community who come to the Salvation Army in need.

There’s still time to give, but there is a sense of urgency.  The Salvation Army needs help from their neighbors in Reno County.  You can give through the Red Kettles, through sending donations or year-end gifts through the mail, or by dropping off donations at the Salvation Army office at 700 N Walnut  Hutchinson, KS 67501.
