HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The unemployment rate took a turn upward in Reno County for the month of July.

The numbers released from the Kansas Department of Labor show the jobless rate for July was 7%. That's up from 6.5% in June. The unemployment rate in Hutchinson increased from 7.3% to 7.9%.

There were 2,146 county residents out of work, which is an increase of 171 from the previous month. The number is still more than 350 less than the May jobless rate when nearly 2,500 county residents were without work.

The state's unemployment rate was essentially flat, increasing by a tenth of a percent to 7.1%.
