James ‘Jim’ Barrett  |1943-2022|

James ‘Jim’ Barrett, 79, passed away unexpectedly August 9, 2022, at his home.  He was born April 29, 1943, in Hutchinson, to John Samuel and Oma Marie (Leach) Barrett.

Jim worked in the shipping and receiving department at Tyson Foods, formerly Doskocil Food Service Company, retiring with over 31 years of service.  He served in the United States Army Reserves.  Jim was a member of the American Giant Homer Association and various other poultry and pigeon clubs.  He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, hunting, fishing, and camping.

On April 9, 1966, Jim married Margaret Kelley, in Jewell.  They shared over 54 years of marriage, prior to her death on July 23, 2020.

He is survived by:  his children, Danny (Wendy) Barrett of Hutchinson, and Michelle (Dan) Silas of Nickerson; grandchildren, Connor (Logan Gitchell) Barrett, Caden Silas, Gage Silas, and Stefani Barrett; great-grandchildren, Piper and Skarlett Barrett; sister, Pat Flickinger of Sterling; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by:  his parents; wife; grandson, Logan Barrett; and siblings, John E. Barrett and Peggy Haley.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 15, 2022, at Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson, KS, with Pastor Bob Phipps officiating.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022, and from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary.
