🏀 HutchCC women open national tournament play against Williston State

The Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team opens its 14th all-time appearance in the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament on Tuesday in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The No. 13-ranked and 13th-seeded Blue Dragons (27-6) will meet No. 20-seeded and 21st-ranked Williston State (32-1) at 2:32 p.m. on Tuesday at Townsley Law Arena.

The game will be broadcast live on KHMY-FM (93.1) beginning at 2:15 p.m. with Sean Boston calling the action. The game will be televised on ESPN+ with Zach McKinstry and Brian Burton calling the action.

Hutchinson makes its third straight appearance in the NJCAA Tournament, making the 2026 field of 24 as an at-large team.

The Blue Dragons reached the Region 6 Tournament championship game after defeating No. 9 Dodge City in the semifinals. Hutchinson had its season-long 12-game winning streak snapped in the regional final after a 57-47 loss to eventual national tournament top seed Butler.

Hutchinson is 25-13 all-time in the NJCAA national tournament, going 7-2 in opening-round games. This is the Blue Dragons’ fifth appearance in the national tournament as an at-large selection.

Offensively, the Blue Dragons are averaging 69.3 points per game while shooting 41.3 percent overall and 30.5 percent from 3-point range. Defensively, the Dragons allow 55.5 points while opponents shoot 35.7 percent overall and 31.1 percent from 3-point range. The Dragons force 18.0 turnovers per game and are plus-8.5 in rebounding margin.

Sophomore Katie Duncan is Hutchinson’s leading scorer at 13.2 points per game with a team-high 70 3-pointers. KaMyra Barber, the 2026 KJCCC Freshman of the Year, averages 12.9 points and sophomore Noelle Anthon averages 10.6 points per game.

The Blue Dragons will contend with the No. 1 scoring offense in the nation in the opening round. Williston State averages 92.0 points per game and is No. 3 in overall field-goal percentage at 48.6 percent.

Five scorers average in double figures for the Tetons, led by Taylah Murtagh at 18.6 points and Jersey Berg at 16.7 points per game.

The Tetons have won 28 consecutive games, defeating Triton College, a past Blue Dragon opponent from early November, 70-62 in the district championship game.

Hutchinson and Williston State meet for the first time ever on Tuesday.
