Burton W. Snyder passed away on October 27, 2021, at Mennonite Friendship Communities. He was born on March 26, 1920, to Burt and Rachel (Dowdy) Snyder in St. John, Kansas. Burton grew up west of St. John on the farm homesteaded by his grandfather. He graduated from St. John High School in 1939.

Burton was a WWII veteran, serving in the South Pacific with the Coast Guard.

He married Virginia Ann Taylor on January 22, 1950, at her parents’ home, in rural St. John. They shared 71 years of marriage. They resided on the Snyder farm for 60 years as farmers. Upon retiring, Burton and Virginia Ann traveled internationally and in the United States.

They moved to Hutchinson in 2010, and to Mennonite Friendship Communities in 2017.

Survivors include: wife, Virginia Ann of the home; daughter, Eileen (Mark) Yamauchi, Hutchinson; son, Lance (Olivia) Snyder, Ouray, Colorado; grandchildren; Sara Yamauchi, Hutchinson, Crystal (Paul) Gonzales, Hutchinson, Adam Snyder, Durango, Colorado, and Eloris Snyder, Houston, Texas; great grandchildren, Quentin (Casey) Clapp, Hutchinson, and Kaiya Vallas-Yamauchi, Hutchinson, and a great-great -grandson due January 2022; and brother-in-law, Tom (Jean) Taylor, Dodge City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Wendell and Wayne Snyder

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place at a future date.
