HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Public Library is proud to announce the debut of a new online catalog system, VEGA Discover, aimed at creating a more streamlined, efficient experience for patrons.
With this new system, library patrons can now:
● Navigate the catalog on their phone, tablet, or computer
● Use Smart Searches, which have spell check, automated search suggestions, and the option to see related keywords to their search
● Check out and hold eBooks, audiobooks, and more, right from the catalog
● Choose to renew material automatically three days before it’s due
● Change their communication preferences to be contacted via email or text
This is all in addition to the existing features that library patrons can take advantage of, including the ability to enable reader history to let you keep track of what you’ve checked out in the past, keep existing holds (even if they’re frozen), and create reading lists. All of these changes make it easier than ever to save time and money while supporting your local library.
Replacing the catalog system is a significant financial investment and commitment of HPL staff to migrate library data and learn the new system. The investment reflects the library’s commitment to serving the community by making it as easy as possible to use the collection.

Rollups combine each format (book, large print, ebook, audiobook, and more) into one search result displaying each in a separate tab. No longer will you need to scroll through multiple pages to see matching titles. Reading a series? Vega now displays the series in book order with covers in its ‘More is this series’ section.
