HUTCHINSON, Kan. —StartUp Hutch is continuing its efforts to strengthen small business development and entrepreneurship throughout Reno County with several new programs and events planned for the coming months.

StartUp Hutch Executive Director Graham Klemme outlined initiatives aimed at supporting entrepreneurs, addressing housing challenges, and encouraging economic growth in rural communities.

One of the organization's upcoming events is StartUp Pretty Prairie, scheduled for this evening at 119 W. Main Street in Pretty Prairie. The meeting is designed to bring together residents, business owners and community leaders to discuss opportunities for small business growth and economic development. Klemme said similar conversations held in Arlington, Buhler Haven and South Hutchinson have helped spark new ideas and collaborations.

StartUp Hutch is also preparing to launch its Housing Entrepreneurship Program in October. The initiative will be led in partnership with local homebuilder Jim Groover and is intended to help skilled trades professionals start or expand businesses connected to residential construction and housing development.

The organization is additionally introducing a Rural Micro Grant Program, which will provide grants of up to $2,500 for small businesses and entrepreneurs working to address community needs in Reno County communities. The program is being offered in partnership with the Hutchinson Community Foundation's Fund for Reno County. Klemme said projects that improve access to goods and services, including food options and downtown development efforts, could be eligible.

StartUp Hutch's largest program of the year, EBB Jump + AI, will begin in late August. The 12-week business development course is designed for entrepreneurs looking to launch or grow a business and will include training on artificial intelligence tools, chatbot development and business planning. The program will conclude with a pitch competition and is limited to 20 participants.
