TONKAWA, Okla. — No. 1 Hutchinson (1-0) opened the season on the road for the first time since 2005.
Fresh off their first national championship in program history, the Dragons opened their 51st season of play, 18th under John Ontjes, with a 79-45 victory over NOC-Tonkawa (0-1).
Hailey Jackson, one of four returning players from last year's championship team, notched her third-career double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, a career high.
Jackson's second-career double-double came against the Mavericks last season.
The Dragons forced 29 Maverick turnovers and scored 20 points off those mistakes.
The Mavericks started the evening 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, but went ice cold, hitting just one of their next 25 attempts from distance.
The Dragons held the Mavericks to 30.4% shooting from the field and just 16.7% from three.
The Dragons hit 10-of-33 attempts from deep and six different players registered a trey.
Kahlen Norris scored a career-high 14, nine came on 3-of-3 shooting from three.
In her Dragon debut, Landon Forbes scored 13 points.
Leila Washington led NOC-Tonkawa with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting.
