

Edwin ‘Dick’ Wiens, 90, of Hutchinson, died July 16, 2020, at Legend of Hutchinson. He was born August 13, 1929, in Inman, to Henry and Katie (Regehr) Wiens.
Dick joined the United States Navy on March 2, 1952, and served in the Marshall Islands during the Korean War, transporting and observing atomic bomb testing in the Pacific. He spent his life working as an electrician. Dick was active in metal detecting, wood carving, and the Electrical Workers Union. He served on the Board of Directors of the Delos V. Smith Senior Citizen Center, was active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and the Senior Sheriff’s Patrol for many years.
On February 16, 1957, Dick married Wanda Friesen, in Hutchinson. They shared 61 years of marriage before she passed on May 21, 2016.
He is survived by daughter, Tina Kirkpatrick and husband Chris Latimer, Hutchinson; son, Mike Wiens, Hutchinson; grandchildren, Lisa Byard, Jesse Vieyra, Bobbi Jo Kulbiski, Shana Arzate, Angie Wiens-Stout, and Michelle Wiens; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; sisters, Susie Mitchell, McPherson, Betty Warkentin, Hutchinson; and many nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda Wiens; and seven siblings.
Memorial Service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2020, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Burial will follow in North Inman Cemetery, with military honors being conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2020 and Tuesday, July 21, 2020, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
