Arthur James ‘Art’ McPhillips, 56, of Hutchinson, died August 1, 2020, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born February 9, 1964, in Hutchinson, to Janice Lee Smith-McPhillips.

Art worked for Carey Salt Company in Careyville and Lyons and then as a Master Sergeant at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. He loved hunting, gambling, and old Western movies. Art was also a big advocate for the existence of Big Foot, much to his family’s amusement.

On June 11, 1988, he married Julie Castro, in Hutchinson. They shared 32 years of marriage.

Art is survived by wife, Julie McPhillips; son, Randy McPhillips; daughters, Jeanell Hopkins, and Reanna McPhillips, all of Hutchinson; sister, Edie McPhillips, Topeka, KS; brother, Thomas McPhillips, Kansas City, MO; and grandchildren, Zavia Walden, Kendrick Dean, Acelyn McPhillips, Alexander McPhillips, and Avery McPhillips, all of Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Smith-McPhillips.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2020, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park. A livestream of the service will be available on the Elliott Mortuary website.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
