Erma Jean Harris  |1946-2022|

Erma Jean Harris, 76, formerly of Hutchinson, entered her heavenly home May 27, 2022, at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe.  She was born January 25, 1946, in Stuttgart, AR, to Daniel and Rosie D. (White) Floyd. 

After graduating from Holman High School, Stuttgart, AR, Erma worked for Betts Bakery and later as a cook for Abundant Life Child Care and Good Samaritan Society, all in Hutchinson. She enjoyed shopping, dancing, sewing, and taking care of indoor plants. Known for her appearance, Erma was a stylish dresser with an elegant and classy personality.  In addition, she was a gifted decorator, and quite crafty. Family was first and foremost to Erma; she ALWAYS took care of family, and anyone else that needed a helping hand.  Erma was there for everyone.   She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her extended family unconditionally.  Erma was a faithful member of Second Missionary Baptist Church.  She is now reunited with her husband and family that have gone before her.   

On April 15, 1968, she married John Edward Harris, in Hutchinson.  They shared 49 years of marriage before his death on March 10, 2018.

Erma is survived by:  daughter, Treva Jones of Gardner; sons, Trent Harris of Hutchinson, and Troy Harris of Wichita; grandchildren, Trae Harris, Triffanie Simms, Treston Harris, Trezney Jones, Alia Harris, Triana Harris, and Taiya Harris; great-grandchildren, Tayvian Simms, Kamden Harris, Lamais Jones, Zy’Aire Stewart, and Kaptain Harris; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; sisters, Earlean (Floyd) Wright, Avis L. Floyd, and Florine (Floyd) Iverson; and brothers, William C. Floyd and Orlando D. Floyd.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 1008 N. Ford, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. Earl B. Givens officiating.  Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.  The service can be viewed on the church’s Facebook page.
