McPHERSON, Kan. — An industrial air compressor failure filled portions of a McPherson building with smoke early Monday, prompting a response from local emergency crews.
The McPherson Fire Department, McPherson Police Department and McPherson EMS were dispatched at about 5:30 a.m. to the 900 block of North Vanguard Street for a report of a possible structure fire.
Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke in the shop area of an industrial building and light smoke throughout the office area. A facility employee arriving for work had discovered the smoke.
After investigating, firefighters determined an industrial-sized air compressor had failed and produced the smoke.
Crews ventilated the building using positive-pressure ventilation.
No injuries were reported, and damage was limited to the air compressor, according to McPherson Fire Chief Chad Mayberry.
The fire department responded with an aerial truck, an engine, three command vehicles and 10 personnel.
Emergency crews cleared the scene by about 7 a.m.
