Hutchinson Community College Mildred Rono won her second race of the season on Saturday in Joplin, Missouri, and won her second KJCCC Women’s Runner of the Week award on Tuesday.
Rono was named the league’s women’s runner of the week after winning the Missouri Southern Stampede and breaking the Blue Dragon 5K school record in the process.
The KJCCC weekly honor is the second award won by Rono this week. The freshman from Eldoret, Kenya, was named the USTFCCCA/NJCAA Division I Women’s National Runner of the Week on Monday.
Rono won her second race of the season, posting a Stampede winning time of 16:49.23 on Saturday morning. Rono won the race by 11.41 seconds. The Stampede was her first collegiate career 5K race
Rono also won the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic in August.
Rono broke the Blue Dragon women’s cross country 5K record formerly held by Faith Jepchirchir of 16:55.33 set last season.
Rono was named both the KJCCC and NJCAA Runner of the Week after winning the Masterson Twilight in August.
